The βPompeii Lakshmi,β in both the shape it was originally discovered in and as reassembled. When found in the ruins of Pompeii in the 1930s, the statuette was thought to be of the goddess Lakshmi, but it is more likely an Indian tree spirit. Nevertheless, it is tangible evidence of ancient trade between India and Rome, which seems to have been quite robust.
